Pearls are different from normal beads. It is glass with a mother-of-pearl layer around it. Often the gap is wider on one side than on the other. With metal wire or metal pins, for example, this is not a problem, because you will puncture the hole properly. It is also not a problem with thin beading yarn or thin steel wire because the bore hole is large enough for that. However, with thick, flexible thread such as elastic or wax cord, stringing is more difficult. The thread is too soft to puncture the smaller hole. A time-consuming solution is to first pierce the beads with a piece of metal. We therefore recommend that you use the pearls only with thin wire or hard metal wire.
